Hi Angela
Eversholt PRs are on the IGI, with christenings up to 1875 - batch no. C148661. There are no Gisborne's, or anything similar. In fact  a search against Gisborne in Beds only throws up three  entries in total. Was the family non-conformist, so they wouldn't appear in the PR?

I've found the same family in Shepton Mallett that Laura found (although Harriett 's birthplace is Old Hill Staffordshire, not Suffolk - it's been wrongly transcribed in the index. Would hate to think of you charging around East Anglia looking for her when you should be in the Potteries!)

I've checked through the 1861 census for Eversholt and there were no Gisbornes.

And going through the indexes for 1871/81/91 throws up nothing at all.  This man is a mystery!......

But

Checking Freebmd is more encouraging...

Axbridge registration district, Somerset (which includes Weston Super Mare) has a marriage between Henry Bunker Gisborne and Harriet Hender in Sept 1887, plus most of the children shown in 1901 and a few more besides. And there is a Harriet Hender aged 18 born Old Hill Staffs on the 1881 census.

Do you have a copy of the marriage cert? At least you'll get the name of his father, so that you've got a different line of attack.

Regards

David

Following on from my previous message, there was a Bunker  family in Eversholt at the right time, parents William and Jane and there was a son Henry Bunker aged 11 born Eversholt on the 1871 census.

This might be a complete red herring but it's an almighty coincidence that Henry's middle name was Bunker and he was allegedly born in Eversholt!

Who as his father on marriage cert???

Hi Angela

I've already checked the parish records of Eversholt before but without success. If by chance you've lost the information just type in Gisborne in the Search Rootschat section above.

I've been re-reading some of your info. You say Henry may have had a sister GW Robson (signed a death certificate) who may be Grace nee Gisborne. Do you know anything else about her? Have you found her marriage, on census etc, You may have more success if you concentrated on tracing her - she may lead you to Henry! If you could trace her marriage, then birth certificate it may give you more to work on especially as Henry is proving to be so difficult!

Also on one of the posts you say that Henry Bunker Gisborne's father was William Bunker Gisborne, deceased in 1864, is that correct? If so perhaps the Bunker connection is one step further back than originally thought - perhaps William's father married a Bunker rather than William himself.

Don't know whether anyone would be able to do a search for ANY Gisborne/Bunker marriages but you could perhaps try a post for that.
