Talks about "Dorman Point" and mantions Jacob as an "early landowner"
http://www.firethorne.com/ferrycure/

and yes, the street name and a little bio for Jacob...!
escerpt "........He joined the army in India and came to Canada in 1885 with his
wife  and two sons. He was a pipefitter in Yale for the Canadian Pacific Railway
and came to Vancouver in 1886..........."
http://www.discovervancouver.com/GVB/vancouver-street-names.asp

( If you see the split view on the 1901, It says immigration for the four was in
1900...) but they were in B.C. some time before this census...as the first child
born in Canada was born B.C 1886....Must have misunderstood the census question...

This is exciting...The piece is written by a grandchild!!!!!

excerpt"My grandfather, Jacob Dorman, used to walk the island with a bag of
Foxglove seeds, sprinkling them as he continued on his way. In late spring, the island is alive with them."
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/virtual_journeys/25221

This one is hard to read, so  here's an excerpt:
"Charlie Dagget, a logger, was the first recorded inhabitant of the island. Other
pioneers, who were granted land, followed him. Included were my grandfather
Jacob Dorman and his wife Sarah.  He built a merry go round to entertain day-
trippers. In the 1900's Captain Cates, plied a regular route to Bowen and Howe
Sound, on his ship Britannia."

You likely have this already, but will add....1901 census with 2 Adams in Alta.
(Calgary)...This is one Province to the East of British Columbia...Did work call him
here, I suppose? Unusual to uproot the whole family, so must have been
a long term position to uproot the whole family...

Go to the full checklist to see all that you can find on the Dormans...
http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-1EFFEE1/bsearch/VisualRecords

Check all records for a full list of what's available ( don't miss any "next "buttons. There is one photo in visual files for a " Miss" Dorman, unfortunately woman seemed to not have FORNAMES back then!  J.J.

Wow JJ - this is fantastic  ;D ;D

I got excited about the articles by the grandchild Mary Ellen Bradshaw, as her bio said she was into genealogy, but then I discovered that she passed away in 2004  :'(  Still, it does provide a few leads.  I'll have to read through all her other articles and see if she reveals any other family info.

I had discovered the Census site tks - Alfred Adams was my GF's oldest brother

Thanks Heaps JJ  :-*
