Could try the Scotsman if you have a subscription. I do not have a subscription but I got a few articles back when I searched on "1899" and "drowned"

There is also the East Lothian Courier. It began in 1859 as the Haddingtonshire Courier but changed its name in 1921. I'm sure there will be records held.

Unfortunately not.  :( However, there is a contact e-mail so fguthrie could enquire how she could access the records? Perhaps they'll even have a search for her. Worth a shot.

I used to deliver the Courier on my paper round, and it was the Haddingtonshire Courier then, 1964 approx,  printed by D J Croall in Haddington. It has been centralised now, not printed in Haddington anymore, my friend was a printer there and got made redundant 2 years ago, 24th Dec 2004. A nice present.
