Also, from the IGI....

 1. JOHN PERHAM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 16 JUN 1811 Yarcombe, Devon, England

 2. THOMAS PARIM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 26 FEB 1809 Yarcombe, Devon, England

Parents Thomas & Susannah

1. THOMAS PERIM & SUSANNAH SPILLER - International Genealogical Index

Can't find a baptism record for Thomas but there are several Susannah Spillers in Yarcombe from 1760-1800.  Obtained from www.familysearch.org

Thanks for that information. I already had some of that. The trouble I have is that one of his children...born 1854, a Frederick PERHAM, I need to see with this family. I was really hoping to get hold of some information from a 1861 census. Frederick PERHAM was travelling in the 1881 census and he was training as an apprentice in the Spirit and Wine Trade in the 1871 census. I know he was born in Buckland St Mary and that he had a brother called John and that his father was called John - but that's all - I guess I really need that information on the 1861 census....how do I get this? Do you know?
Thanks -
Also do you think they changed their name from PERIM to PERHAM???

I think its probable that the vicar/curate just wrote the name as he thought it was spelt, often if the vicar's weren't from the area they seemed to have trouble with understanding accents, this is what i've noticed with some of my names.

I don't mind helping you but can i  suggest that you be more specific in your posts. Your first message was quite vague and i ended up posting alot of information which you already had. Your second message should have been your first post as it was alot more specific.

The 1861 devon census is slowly being put online at freecen.rootsweb.com so it may be worth looking there. If you can't find your people i'd suggest asking for a search in the lookup request section.

Thanks, Paula
I didn't mean to be so vague. The information you sent me was useful, especially the IGC stuff, as I never considered that there was a spelling problem, so to speak.
