We'll skip 1861 for the moment, because here comes the pay dirt in 1851.  I was thinking that he must have been something Italian like Bradiccio, and shortened it to make it sound English.  How wrong can you be    ;D

1851 census - 21 Fulwood Rents, Holborn

Michael Braddish Head Married 25 Classical Teacher B Ireland
Catherine Braddish Wife Married  26 B Ireland
Angelo Braddish Son 2 B Middlesex [indistinct]

I can only assume that the cachet of havinga  son called Angelo reinforced the image of a "Classical Teacher".

Anyway 1861 is a pretty dead duck for these three.  They may, of course, have been in Ireland.  Shame we don't have a county or town in Ireland.  There were quite a few Bradish's from Ireland around the place in the 1861 census (unfortunately).

Now let's see if we have any luck with Susan Rivers  ;)

How about this lot:

Susan’s  “Born in St Johns Wood” in the later census’s has thrown me a bit here.  Could have been just trying to be a bit “nobbish” later on

1861 census – 38 Ferdinand Place, St Pancras

James B Rivers Head Married 37  Butcher B Essex
Mary E Rivers Wife Married 38  Dressmaker B Holborn
Mary E Rivers  Daughter13  B St Pancras
Frederic J Rivers  Son 11  B Marylebone
Susanna Rivers Daughter 9  B St Pancras
Agnes E Rivers Daughter 7  B St Pancras
Charles S Rivers Son 5  B St Pancras
Louisa Rivers Daughter 3  B St Pancras
Eliza E Rivers Daughter 1  B St Pancras

RG9/122, 75/82

1871 census – 16 Hadley Street N, Kentish Town

James B Rivers Head Married 49 Journeyman Butcher B essex
Mary E Rivers Wife Married 49  B Holborn
Frederick Rivers Son 21  Journeyman Butcher B St Pancras
Susan Rivers Daughter 19  General servant out of employment B St Pancras
Agnes Rivers Daughter 18  Dressmaker B St Pancras
Charlotte Rivers Daughter 15  Dressmaker B St Pancras
Louisa Rivers Daughter 13   B St Pancras
Eliza Rivers Daughter 11  B St Pancras
George Rivers Son  8  B St Pancras
Alice Rivers Daughter 5  B St Pancras
Mary Downing  Boarder Unmarried 20 B London

RG10/239, 39/8

Susan pos born Lambeth 1851

no one else really fits

She married William Richards 1873 Q2 Lambeth, and on 1891 census is with william Richards at 9 Cardigan Street, Lambeth - she's recorded as age 39 B Lambeth London.  So I think it's the other one born in St Pncras (but masquerading in later life as Born in posh St Johns Wood).

Looks like Susan Rivers' parents (ie the Butcher from essex) both died in the 1880s.

The one little other fly in the ointment is that Angelo's wife is shown as Sarah on the 1901 census, but Susan prevously.  I've looked for a Susan Bradish death in the 1890s, but didn't find one.  I think it is an enumerator's mistake in the 1901 census.

Wow that was fun.  I hope all this has been helpful.  I'd recommend a reality check - see what confirmation you can get on all this.  The births of most of the A**** Bradish's can be found in Free BMD  :)

Hi,

Mabel Sophia Bradish is a relative of mine and she married Augustus C Wilson in 1914 at St Pancras.

Most of the family are buried in two plots in Highgate cemetery. (41195/41196)

I have done a complete family tree going back to 1795 if it helps.
