Fairholme Nursing Home, Chester 1925
« on: Saturday 20 January 07 08:27 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me with information on the Fairholme Nursing Home in Chester 1925? Is there a trade directory that might mention it?

My husband's great grandma died there in 1925 and we are trying to find out more info. I have already tried the Chester archives but they have no recors.

The Nursing Home was in Glan Aber Park Chester.

Thanks Celia, when I googled the name, I only came up with one in Wrexham or in Cornwall  :(

The reason we are interested is becuase the lady was only 48 when she died and the rumour had been that she had died after falling into a fire, drunk! The death cert didn't confirm this, although she could have died as a result of a fall. We were interested to find out why she had been in a nursing home rather than a hospital. Unfortunately, I doubt if they would release any info, but it is worth a try.

Hi again Lynn
On reading the circumstances of the death of the lady in question.I feel sure there would have been a postmortem and inquest  into her death, which possibly could have been reported, with it occurring in a Nursing home.Inquests could take weeks though before the report was in the paper.so might take a long time to go through them all.The only other thing i can suggest is that you look up in the weekly papers for 1925 in a library with a reference room and see if there is an article in the paper about her death. You know the date she died so you can work out which edition the report might be in. Hope this might be of some help ;)

Thanks Celia. The death cert said that there wasn't a postmortem, which I thought was a bit strange. The cause of death could well relate to a head injury of some kind, but nothing definite. cheking the papers does sound like a good idea though, thanks.

I am also trying to find details of that Nursing Home.  I have its address as Woodlands Road, Saltney Chester but Woodlands and Glen Alber Park join.  I was born there in 1944

Hi Janet

I'm hoping that you can also provide me with some information on Fairholme Nursing Home in Chester.  My father was born there in 1940 and has always wanted to find out exactly where the building was, and if it is still standing/
