I was named after two nurses on the maternity ward - Patricia and Jean.

Funny think is I was taken in by a 58yr old widow when I was a couple of months old and adopted by her when I was 13 months old. She kept the names I was given but as she didn't like the name Patricia she insisted everyone called me by my second name -  Jean. (This convinces me that I am off the family but whose daughter in what branch line I don't know)

I can't understand why some surnames appear as middle names in my lot, I can't find a trace of them elsewhere.

I always thought that it was the norm to use the mother's maiden name,  I have cases where that happens but, also have names that seem to have appeared from nowhere! Such as Elizabeth 'Wood ' Farquhar, can't find one anywhere.

Also, I have 'Turner' Bryden's, about three generations where this name is used, only for males and not every male. I found that cousins have the name so it doesn't just go down one line. I still can't find out why.

Whilst on the subject of names I've just found that a Mary Anne Sippitts in my tree married an Elijah Headspith in 1864.
What a fab name! Thankfully, I can't find an offspring who has Sippitts as a middle name!
Cheers
Meg.

I have my maternal grandfather's christian names, in reverse order. That being so I am lucky in his names as others in his own family had names like Clarence and Percy.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

My parents have always teased me that if I think my name was bad then it could have been "Henry Peasemolt Buttercup Woodcock". Funny I have NEVER complained!  ::)
So whatever your name don't worry it could have been worse!
Instead I am named Geoffrey after my grandad and Neil indirectly after Neil Armstrong who landed on the moon a couple of months before.
If I ever have children then I shall keep the name Douglas up my sleeve as both my grandad and g-grandad had this as their middle name and all the guys named Douglas that I know are really kind. Didn't know this before I started genealogy!
