Local paper for Edmonton
« on: Tuesday 23 January 07 18:39 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone advise me please which local paper I need to try and get hold of to look for a death/inquest report for a relative who died in Edmonton in 1902?   And, realistically, am I likely to find anything?

I am also looking for a local paper for Edmonton to see if they reported on deaths from WW1. A relation died in 1917 in France - he was with the Royal Field Artillery and was interested in looking up the report of his death and possibly a photo. Often the smaller areas reported more extensively so here's hoping someone can supply an answer.

Cheers

You should check with the local archives or with the (extensive) British Library newspaper collection - www.bl.uk
Sometimes, local archives will look things up for you.
On the other hand, war deaths were often not reported immediately, for security reasons, so it could take some digging to find him.

British LIbrary, Colindale, shows the following:
The Tottenham and Edmonton Weekly Herald, Southgate Messenger, North Middlesex and West Essex Advertiser, etc.
Numbers no. 418-432, 665-5711
Dates 3 July-9 Oct. 1869; 25 April 1874-25 Dec. 1970.

Local archives could be Enfield or Haringey?

Thanks for the website referrals = - most interesting and very useful.
Will pursue the library website and the subsequent referrals
War deaths seem to be difficult to trace and if the family didn't keep a scrapbooking cutting, may never find it.

Thanks
