Robinson Family
« on: Wednesday 24 January 07 17:26 GMT (UK) »
I am helping my mother's cousin find her Robinson ancestors from Birmingham.

I have the following information so far.

John Robinson born Halesowen 1794 who married a Sarah born Halesowen 1795, children were
Samuel born 1819
Eliza born 1822 Aston
Rebecca born 1824 Aston
Thomas born 1827 Aston
Elizabeth born 1829 Aston
John 1837 Aston

According to the 1851 census their address was 63 Ashton Rd Aston and John was age 58 gun rod forger

I wondered whether anyone can find the baptisms of John & Sarah's children. I would like to know Sarah's maiden name so that I can look for their marriage.

Are you able to help?

Hello Dinkey
Found this marriage:
John Robinson=Sarah Devenport/21/6/1818/Aston Juxta.
Also in this parish are 2 births for a John & Sarah but not yours,so I don't know if this is your couple.
The closest birth is this:
John Robinson/b.12/2/1837/ch.28/10/1839/St.Philps.
Searched there for the others but not there.I did find 2 more births for a John & Sarah but again not yours.
You need more info. for this couple ie. siblings so any marriage you find can be checked for others family members.
As the other children don't seem to appear anywhere I wonder if they were non-conformist.
Regards Jim

There is a birth on freeBMD for Sept quarter 1837 - John Robinson Aston. Searching the 1851 census only brings your John up for a similar search. It may be worth trying that birth certificate.

Hi jim1

Thank you for that lookup.

Can you remember whether on the baptism record you found of John Robinson born 12/02/1837 it showed father's occupation and address, that might help me to determine whether it would be the correct family.

I found the family in the 1841 census at address Palmer Street Aston where John was a gun rod forger. Is St Philips the most likeley place or do you know of any other church where the children  may have been baptised.

hi heywood

Thankyou also for looking at the free BMD and finding the birth of John Robinson in Sept quarter 1837.

Now I am in a quandry, if he is the same John that  jim1 found born in February then would the registration have taken place in September nearly 7 months later.

As I am not doing the research for myself but an elderly lady I do not want to be ordering a wrong certificate. She is descended from Samuel Robinson born 1819 so before civil registration.

no you're right to be cautious- the record on IGi does show that birth and christening record and that it comes from local records so presumably that is what the church record says St Philips Birmingham. It just shows John and Sarah as parents.
There is also one born 1838 - parents John and Sarah baptised St Martins, Birmingham.
As Jim says there are no more. I was also thinking that there is such a gap between the other children and John that Sarah might be a second marriage- sorry to add another problem.

Hello Both
I had the same thought as Kath that Sarah might be a second wife. With regards the birth reg. I believe a parent had up to 2 years to register at that time.
Will keep looking.
