COMPLETED.....Looking for MARRIOTT / CULLERTON / KEMPT connection
« on: Thursday 25 January 07 06:34 GMT (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters, Hi there.  Trying to extend the family tree regarding the CULLETON and MARRIOTT lines as I have just today found the parents names of Florence Genevieve CULLETON.  Florence was my father-in-law's mother.

Annie Elizabeth MARRIOTT* born c1870 unknown, married 1885 New Zealand to (1) Peter CULLERTON (also known as Peter CULLETON).  The couple had one known child: Florence Genevieve CULLETON born 10 Sep 1894 Helensville, Auckland, New Zealand, died 28 Aug 1977 NZ married James Thomas LYONS.  (See LYONS / FLEMING topic).

Annie Elizabeth CULLETON married 1904 NZ to (2) Walter James KEMPT~.

Note*: I've checked the IGI and found a possible record matching Annie MARRIOTT, there's an Annie MERRIT born 1867 NZ, daughter of John MERRIT of Lond, Middlesex, England (aged 14yrs on the 1881 Census at familysearch.org).

Note~: I've checked the IGI and found a possible record matching Walter James KEMPT, there's a Walter KEMP (note spelling) born 1862 Pakuranga to parents: Charles KEMP and Elizabeth THOMAS.

Q.Can anyone dig up more info on these people?

Thanks,
Alison QLD Australia.

NB: Also CULLETON in the bay of Islands and in central Auckland, do you want these?

Kemp genealogy site
http://www.citybizinc.ca/family-history/kemp.html

There are Marriott children in 1897 "address to queen vic", Parnell district.

Also Symonds Street Cemetery has Marriott buried there, appears to be some of the above. Also the burial of the KEMP, Charles & Elizabeth and others. This cemetery would be very relivant to the areas located in Elec Rolls.

There also appears to be a bit of info googling on ther Marriott of Karangahape road ( K'Rd) Auckland. Also check out this pic at link

Also you wont believe this but my new landlord's are Marriott's .

Hi

All KEMPT I locate 1893 and most from 1881, are from the Rodney district, North & far North of the North Is. Which does match in the KEMPT on IGI also.

So If Annie was still in helensville district she may have intermingled with these KEMPT.

( Appears to be a new search engine for online cemetries too)

Della!  You are quite simply incredibly amazing.  Thank you so much for all this info and the precious time it took to dig it all up.  My goodness ... I just scrolled down through it all.  Shall have to take time to digest data and look at all the links you've provided.  I love all the occupations- confectioners, grocers, tailors, etc.  Paints a picture of a really bustling and successful town.

Once I find out more information, some of the data provided will no doubt fit in nicely.

Fancy your Landlord being a MARRIOTT!  Better get them to do their family tree hey?

Thanks again cousin, Alison.  ;)

PS I've been very busy with genealogy lately, in one week I've found out that we have another 'convict' in the family tree, namely my 2g grandfather James Parker from Norfolk who was sentenced 7yrs downunder for stealing wheat in the 1830s.  Then I got sent photographs of two sisters-in-laws who were in fact both my 2g.grandmothers in England.  Wow.  One of them even looks like my grandpa.  And I've been finding out quite a bit on my hubby's adoptive family's ancestry LYONS and HUGHES.

Hi there.  My MIL told me some more data the other day - found four more children - from a small piece of paper she found with notations from her husband written in the '70s.  Some of it is feint and hard to read as it's written in lead pencil.

Peter CULLE(R)TON and Annie Elizabeth MARRIOTT had five children (I only knew about Florence).  Not too sure about birth order either.

1.Florence Genevieve CULLETON (as mentioned previously).

2.Joseph Luke CULLETON born unknown NZ, died unknown
married 1912 to Ann Lucy MCCABE NZ

3.Gertie CULLETON ... nothing else known

4.Clara Helen CULLETON born unknown NZ, died 13 Sep 1967 NZ
married (1) Thomas DODD in 1909
married (2) Joseph DAL(E)Y in 1923

5.John (Jack) CULLETON
married 1931 to Kathleen MCMAHON

Siblings 2. to 5. listed above were my father-in-laws aunts/uncles.

Dear Bronwen, Once again thank you for the detailed information.  I really appreciated it.

And hello Jean, my MIL was very pleased to know that some of her little notes really did make sense after all these years.  Thank you!  Glad to know where the CULLETONs are finally buried.  I shall try and find John (Jack) CULLETON.  DelBoy has given me lots of online cemetery links.

Cheers,
Alison.
