Warse

I am trying hard to fine the parents of John Warse (Wares) born c 1755 Canisbay.  He married Jannet Old (Auld) in 1778.  Can anyone help please?  The Scottish naming pattern can be very useful but also quite confusing.

Regards

Fishponds, just a thought, the various spelllings of Old that I have come across include Auld, and other rootschatters I am sure will come up with others.  This may help in your search.

Fishponds,
the only info I can provide is that Janet was listed as janet oal.
Their family were
james 1780
john 1781
euphemia 1783
Anne 1788
Donald 1790
William 1793
Janet 1796

Frank - question 1 was "I am trying hard to fine the parents of John Warse (Wares)"

Variation in spelling but maybe same family as in

http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.sut.general/1193/mb.ashx

Stroma being so close to Mainland Scotland (Caithness).

James.

(Caithness, basking in accustomed tropical conditions [and if you believe that, I'll sell you the Castle of Mey])
Ayrshire: Craig, Orr.

Have you seen Stuart's site
http://www.familyauld.org.uk/
His ealiest Auld(etc) appears to be George who married Janet Smith 1787.
It could well be that this George was a brother! to your John b 1755.

Catherine WARES b1839 being my link to this tree - she married Alexander Auld
