Hadfield Town Chesterfield ?
« on: Saturday 27 January 07 15:11 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know which area would have been called Hadfield Town in Chesterfield? My grandfather lived in New St , Hadfield Town at the time of his marriage in 1929 but I have no idea where that might be. He was born in Chesterfield and after marriage lived in the Tupton area.

Any ideas most welcome

There's a New Street in North Wingfield.  That would fit with Tupton.

Hadfield (proper) is near Glossop on the other side of the county; I could not find a New St there, just a New Bank Street.  But from what you say  it sounds like he was rooted in North east Derbyshire.

Others may be able to help ( a number of us scoured the same area for Woodthorpe the other night).  But be warned the Wingfield Local History Site gets hijacked by the nasty Drive Cleaner.

There's a New Street at Grassmoor, again close to Tupton.

Thank you all so much, Grassmoor / Wingfield etc do sound about the right area, I know my great grandfather lived on Sheffield Road and Brunswick St Chesterfield when they moved from N Yorks, before moving to New Street "Hadfield" Town. It is probably a lost nickname for wherever, but thanks alot for taking to the time to come up with ideas.
