1901 census look-up 'Schofield'in Oldham
« on: Wednesday 31 January 07 21:13 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone please find Ethel Victoria Schofield , born 1888c in Oldham, I think.
She married Robert Walsh in Oldham in 1922.
I'd like to know who the other members of her family were, if she can be found.
Thanks
Kathy

Best start would be to check the birth indexes for the (relatively) unsual forname. That will 'prove' the geography...

Thanks for the quick result!
I haven't got the marriage cert. in fact, as she's not a very direct rellie. I was curious to know how many siblings there were.  I think  that this is the family as her name is not very common.

This can be considered a finished enquiry!

Thanks very much, and I WILL make an effort to get marriage cert eventually!

Sal,
That's fantastic, and I'm pleased to hear from someone from Oldham, (i'm supposing).
But, maybe i'm stupid, but what can you check, without buying a certificate? i do know that they are my ones, but can you get father's name for example!,

I'm from Oldham, but live in France, so get over about once a year and go to the archives. If it's so easy to check out marriages, please tell me what to do!!I'm coming over in August, hopefully.
I really appreciate your offer anyway!

Hi Kathy

Oldham Local Studies and Archives, Union Street, Oldham.
Website http://www.oldham.gov.uk/community/local_studies.htm

They have most of the parish registers for the Oldham area, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials. If you click on Parish Registers on the right hand side of the screen it will give you a list of all the parishes on film and years available.

The Marriage registers after 1837 have the full certificate which will give you all the information of the marriage including fathers name and occupation if available.

The best bit, its free.

Regards
Sal

ps What part of Oldham are you from (i'm being nosey ;D)
