1841 cen please
« on: Thursday 01 February 07 15:11 GMT (UK) »
Can someone please take a look at the 41 cen please.

I am trying to locate a Cecelia Hunter in Clackmannan, born 1832 to a James Hunter and Catherine Sharp.
On the 51 cen she is with an Uncle Robert in westfield

The only thing I can find on ancestry  for the 41 cen is a C. Hunter 1837, parish No. 466 Ed 4 Page 14.  The address is Buchlile Eng.  I have tried to locate the image on Scotlands people to check the image and it is not listed, nor is it listed on free cen.

Many thanks for any help

Julie

Hi Julie

It is strange. As you say, the female C Hunter shows on Ancestry but there is not a 4 year old x Hunter showing on SP with the same refs as Ancestry.

Hi Monica,

That is the correct listing.  I was hoping that perhaps the full name was listed as I am not sure if it is the right person.

Many thanks for you time.

Try looking for Luke Sharp age 9 in Clackmannan - the one with ref 466/00 004/00 013 (they are actually on page 14 of the image) will give you the entry with the Hunters on it.

I think the SP transcribers have interpreted the name as Elisabeth Hunter as the entries appear to read:

Janet Hunter age  25
Elisabeth do  age 20
   do        do  age 4

Ancestry have put the ditto down as a C

Hope this helps

Regards
Helen

Cecilia's 1851 census entry at her uncle Robert's has her born c. 1833 (her submitted entry on IGI has her as 1832, there is though a supporting OPR entry showing on Scotlands People for May 1832).  Not certain that the 4 year old (b. 1837) showing in 1841 could be her, although I cannot see anybody else at present that comes close. Also this family group all seem to have been born out of the county.

But as Helen pointed out a couple of 'doors' down, is Catherine Sharp's siblings (?) Cecilia and William Sharpe with children Nathaniel and Luke.

Regards.

Hi to you both.

Sorry it has taken me a few days to get back to you. I have been away visiting family.
After reading your last note Monica, I realsied I had put her birth year in wrong. I hope I did not confuse things to much.
It seems the hunters and Sharps are well intermixed.  Catherine Sharp married James Hunter and her sister Helen marries his brother Robert. Catherines other sister Cecelia Sharp married a William Sharp. To add to it all her father Nathanial Sharp married Cecelia Sharp.
I have not got back any further yet to see if they are all of the same family or not.

Thanks to you I now know that the C Hunter is not her and I agree with you that it does look like a ditto. I wonder just where she could be.? I will keep looking.

Regards

Julie

Yes Yes Yes. I think I have them.
466/7/11

Catherine sharpe or (looks like it could be) hunter aged 38
Cicelia with a ditto 9
and Cicelia sharpe 25. I am not sure who the 25 year old is. On the same page is Robert and Helen Hunter with their children. Catherines brothers archibald and Joseph. There is another nathaniel and luke with what may possibly be catherines mother aged 65. To me the name looks like ?eclia. Certainly to many coincidences for it not to be them.

 :) :) :)

Ancestry have the household indexed as (running into page 12):

Catherine Sharper, 38
Cecilia Sharper, 7
Cecilia Sharper, 25
Andrew Bain, 66
Jane Bain, 53

Address: Westfield, Clackmannan

Regards.

Monica

Not that it is much help sometimes with Ancestry's transcriptions  :o, but mother? (living with Archilbald and two boys Luke and Nathaniel) is showing as Leslie Sharpe

Hi Monica. thats the one. The original has catherine sharp or Hunter. The hunter is scribbled over, but that is waht it looks like to me.
I can see how they came up with Leslie but looking at it myself it looks like cecelia to me.
Maybe I am clutching at straws?

At least I can narrow down catherines death. Somewhere between 41 and 56.
