To list an unwanted certificate:

If you have a certificate of a Birth, Marriage or Death that you have found unconnected to your ancestors and you would like to pass it on to where it may be useful - start a new thread, with a title along the lines of :

Surname Forename, Date, Town/Village, County.

In the message body you could then put full details and type of certificate

Hastings John, 2nd March 1862 at Winchelsea, Sussex. Death Certificate aged 55 years, widow living at 5 Spring Steps, Winchelsea.

This can then be followed by any other details that you have and possibly why you sent for it (thought it was 3 x grt gr Father) this could indicate to other researchers what lines you are following.

Do not post any personal information in the message – use the ‘Private Message’ facility to exchange details of how you can pass the certificate on.

This was recently asked on another board:
Quote
How do we make contact to see if you have any certificates that might help me for instance?

Answer:
just check the topics on the appropriate board (A to G, H to M, ... etc) for any names you need.

However, I've noticed that not everybody puts their offers in the right group, so here is another possibility:
- click on Search RootsChat
- click on Advanced Search
- enter the name you are searching for
- go to the bottom of the page and click on "Check all" (all boxes will now be unchecked)
- click on the boxes
Unwanted Birth, Marriage, Death Certs A to G
Unwanted Birth, Marriage, Death Certs H to M
Unwanted Birth, Marriage, Death Certs N to S
Unwanted Birth, Marriage, Death Certs T to Z
- click on "search"

This will search all "unwanted certs." boards in one go.

If you see a cert. that might be from your people, contact the person offering the cert. by sending them a personal message (PM)

Hope this helps
Bob

All the information is so easy to follow EXCEPT it doesn't show you how to start a new thread.

I want to add my first certificate but I can't see where to go to Add the Post or Start a New thread.

Is there an Icon to click onto that will let me enter the area to Post an unwanted certificate?

Am I going blind or am I just plain stupid?

Thanks,
Lesley
