Military Regiment Question

On a death certificate recently I found the fathers occupation to be a soldier, private in the 2nd Battalion Queen's Royal Regiment.

The death was registered in Lanarkshire in 1872. But I am not sure the Regiment is a Scottish one, but I could be wrong

Would anyone out there know anything more about this particular regiment

No, it isn't a Scottish regiment. Try these sites:

They should give you a starting point.  You also need to remember that many regiments have merged or changed their names in recent years and so don't seem immediately to be what you are after.

You are quite right. It was originally the West Surrey Regiment of Foot and gained the title Queen's Royal after  some amalgamations a long time back.
