I note that the witnesses at the wedding of your g grandfather's are William and Eleanora Sloan.  Do you have any more information about them?  I am looking for a John sloan from Antrim who is married to an Eleanora McMillan (or similar) I can't read the record clearly.

I am also interested in the McDowells.

John McDowell married Mary Ann Davidson supposedly in Belfast, Antrim in Feb, 1852.  They came to Aust as Assist Immigrants in 1855 per 'Anna'.

John ,born c 1830, gave his native place as Tydavnet, Co Monaghan although his death cert says Glaslough, Co Monoghan.  His parents were Samuel & Mary McDowell (nee McColl) living at Coothill, Co Monaghan in 1854.

Mary Ann Davidson gave her native place as Gilford, Co Down. Her parents were John & Elizabeth Davidson (nee Warburton?).  In 1854 her father had died and her mother was living in Belfast. Mary Ann had a sister Eleanor (Ellen) Amelia Davidson native of Moira, Co Down who also came to Aust in 1858.

Maybe these might connect with other McDowell strays.

This is great. the name I am looking for was Ellen McMillan, McMullan or similar and John Sloan married in 1844 in Antrim.  Could this be William John? Certainly it is a name carried on into further generations. It also sits well with the time of other members of the family emigrating from the great happenings of Ireland at the time. I will investigate further and see what I can find.  I will let you know if there is a link.

I am looking for information on John Sloan from Antrim born 1697, migrated to the US before 1729. If you can direct me to any help or suggest a source for this information in Antrim, I would greatly appreciate it. I am a novice in tracking my family, but have tracked 10 generations back to this John Sloan (i realize, common name) and would like to know about the name in Ireland.

Thanks

Hi Callumnik.
Mary Eleanor McDowell, father William, a sawyer, married William Sloan, a coachmaker, father James, a labourer, on the 21 November 1868 in Berry Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast.
Their residences is given as Belfast.
Witnesses to the marriage, William John McCorry and Mary Magee.
I have two children to this marriage.
William Thomas, born 5 September 1869, Belfast.
Sarah, born 31 July 1873, Belfast.

The family, I believe, lived in the Grovernor Street, (later became Grovernor Road), area of Belfast.

Dixie

Hi

You previous posted a notification for Nancy McDowell to James Campbell on the 26th May 1866. I note that Adam McDowell was her father and that Henry & Robert McDowell were her witnesse (brothers). I am a direct descendant of Adam's but I have come to a road block with the family line. Are you able to tell me anything else about them (parentage etc). I have Adam marrying Jane Thomson and their children are Samuel (my line), Sarah, Agnes, Robert, Henry and Nancy. Any information would be helpful.

Many Thanks

Suz
