RootsChat Cousins
« on: Tuesday 23 November 04 14:11 GMT (UK) »
Today,  I heard from another cousin that I would not have known about if it were not for RootsChat.   ;D

It is a lovely feeling,  and I wondered if any other RootsChatters have been so lucky.

So,  answer my poll,  and let's see if RootsChat is helping people find new cousins.  ;D

I have only found one other member who is even researching any name the same as my list. That was a totally different family.
I do not have  a lot of hope that will improve.
I have been a meber of Genes Reunited for a fair time and had only one contact from anybody whom I didn't know personally.
From Rootsweb - nothing at all - so Rootschat is not alone in failing me in that way. :(

Hi Hackstaple,

I just read your post, and have noticed you have an interest in the surname Morgan in the Glocestershire/Monmouth areas, what area in Gloucestershire are your Morgans from? I have Morgans in Ledbury/Eastnor, Herefordshire - Castlemorton,Worcestershire area and I think I may have just traced my Morgans back to the Monmouth/Glamorgan area.

I was posting someone last night (they were called DeComyn) who had a Thomas Morgan who lived in Gloucester.

Don't give up hope, you never know who you may find on here!  ;)

I haven't found any cousins from RootsChat yet ...but I've only been using you for a couple of weeks so that's not surprising really!!

Have found 3 (possibly 4) otherwise.

Must admit since finding RootsChat I seem to spend more time trying to help others or sitting giggling at the entries on Lighter Side & Even Lighter Side than doing my own research!!

There's not enough hours in the day  ;D

Hi there Rebecca - I was not starting a moan but replying to a question. Anyway my Morgans are all in the Forest of Dean where folk are registered as Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire or even Herefordshire.
They start with John Morgan b. about 1715 East Dean. His daughter Elizabeth b. 23 Mar 1741, East Dean, m. George Meredith on 31 Jan 1760.
Their son William Meredith m. Sarah Morgan b.1781 at Flaxley and m. at Flaxley 20 July 1802.
So the Morgans come in twice in 3 generations.

I would love any confirming data on the above.

Blimey Hack! You have done well with yours!  8)

I know how frustrating it is to research such a common surname, especially in the areas we are interested in!  ::)

I think I've just got back to about 1802 with a Richard Morgan, who was from the Aberdare area. Mine seemed to move all over the Herefordshire/Worcestershire/Gloucestershire area though!

I do have photos of my Morgans in the Forest of Dean, but that was in the 1920s.

If I come across any of your Morgans in my search, I'll let you know!

Kind regards,
Rebecca
