Blackdam Urquhart - Taylor
« on: Sunday 18 February 07 14:05 GMT (UK) »
In the 1841/51 census the Taylor family are recorded as living at Blackdam, Urquhart, Morayshire.  In 1861 they are recorded as living at 2 Cotts. Redhall.

Can anyone tell me where these places were and if they still exist.

The family were James Taylor and Jane Williamson.

Thanks
Betty

I see that Gus Binnie has already told you about Blackdam on the Rootsweb Moray Message Board.

Redhall is about half a mile north of Mosstodloch.

If you go to www.streetmap.co.uk you can look all of them up and see exactly where they are.

Incidentally the grandmother of the great 18th century politician William Pitt is supposed to have been born at Redhall.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks for your reply.

I have found them!!

I don't know why I could not find them yesterday.  I was on a map site which only seemed to give me places abroad.  I couldn't get onto Scotland.  Sorry to have given you something I could have done myself.

Interesting about William Pitt.  I must look that up.

Thanks again
Betty
