Hi Moira

That's a really kind offer.  I wonder if you could help me with the birth of Bridget Burke circa 1857.  I know from census records that she was born in Matlock, Derbyshire.  The index of births shows two possibilities:

Chesterfield June 1858 7b 500
Hayfield Sep 1856 7b 573

As you are likely to know the area better than me, could you tell me which registration district births in Matlock would fall under?  I need to order the certificate to ascertain the mother's maiden name.  Parents were Richard and Bridget Burke, both born in Ireland, as was their elder daughter Mary (my ancestor)

Also, if you were able to find a baptism entry for Bridget that would be fantastic, and much appreciated!

Thanks again
Regards Julie

I am a bit worried that the 1861 and 1871 both just have Derbyshire. Matlock may not be very reliable.
If it doesn't work out you could try Thomas Burke March qtr 1859. It is in the subdistrict of Lowton (Wigan & Leigh) which seems to fit with him being born at Golborne.
Rose (Black Country),Downs (Black Country),Wolloxall (any and all),Bark (Derbyshire),Wright (Derbyshire),Marsden (Derbyshire), Wallace (Black Country)

Hi Gardener

Yes, it does look like it would be more sensible to order that certificate instead of trying to find one for Bridget - I'd still love to find the entry for Bridget though, in a vain attempt to work out why she was born in Derbyshire rather than Lancashire.

Regards, Julie
