Field Family, Whipsnade, Beds
« on: Thursday 22 February 07 16:42 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help trace the following family in the 1841/51 censuses?

Thomas Field (sometimes called Richard Field) b c1784, Edlesborough, Bucks, wife Mary (maiden name Hall) born c1788 Whipsnade, Beds.
I know of 3 children:

Ann Field b c1811 Whipsnade
Mary Field b c1823 Whipsnade
David Field b c1830 Whipsnade

David went on to marry Ann Impey 1n 1851 in Eaton Bray, Beds. The 1881/91 censuses show he was a Baker.

I'm assuming the family were still in Whipsnade at the time of the 1841/51censuses.

I'd be really pleased with any help anyone can give.

Hello Beverly

If you have access to the 1841 census it might be worth looking at HO107/49/10 Folio 15 page 25

In 1841 it looks as if your family are still residing in Eddelsborough. The census has them listed not as Field but Fiela.

David Fiela   bn abt 1830
Mary Fiela       bn abt 1794
Mary Fiela       bn abt  1823
Thomas Fiela    bn abt  1781

There also appears to be an Ann Smith bn abt 1811 and her husband Henry living with the family, this could well be the daughter Ann that you listed.

Hope this is of help to you

Hello again Beverley

On looking at the 1851 census for Edlesborough there is listed
The following:

David Fields age 20  bn Whipsnade, Bedfordshire  Occupation Journeyman Baker

He appears to be living with a Charles Thorne and family, Baker.

HO107/1756 folio 491 page 1

I will continue to look for the rest of the family.

Alan,
Thank you so much for finding the family for me. It's nice to see Thomas is still Thomas and not Richard! And it is a bonus to find Ann's husband.

Hoping someone out there can help with this.  :)
I'm still desperate to trace Thomas Field and wife Mary in the 1851 census to find the birthplace of Thomas.  When Thomas and Mary married he was "of Edlesborough"....but was this where he was living at that time, or was he born there? Marraige took place in Whipsnade.

In 1841 the family are living in Edlesborough, Bucks with son David, daughter Mary and possible married daughter Ann, to Henry Smith. David is my ancestor. In 1851 he is living with the Thorne family in Edlesborough, but where are his parents and siblings? I'm told by a Genes R contact that Sister Mary went on to marry Charles Procter, but I'm still looking into that.

Also does anyone think the Thorne family David was living with in 1851 are family? David was a Baker and Mr Thorne was a Baker too. I don't have any other info on the Thorne's.

Any help at all would be fantastic....

Looked at the Mary Field/Charles Procter marraige again. It wasn't David's sister Mary that married Charles, it was his daughter Mary.....sorry to confuse you....

Are you still researching David Field the baker of Whipsnade? He is my ancestor too. I realised only recently that his parents were not Thomas Field and Mary Hall but Thomas Field and Lydia (maiden name unknown). I have traced David's line right down to my grandmother Ivy Grace Field.

Hello,
Yes I am still looking into David Field and family, and am pleased to hear from you. My great grandmother was Ada Ruth Field.
It was interesting to hear about David's parents being Thomas and Lydia and I'd love to hear more. I'm happy to pass on my e-mail address if you'd like to get in touch that way, or we can continue via this site. Let me know.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there. Since my last email I've discovered David's parents were Thomas Field and Mary Hall. I had been led up a blind alley (long story) but I've also found out Thomas' parents I believe. Send me an email at * and we can chat on there. Alison
