Hello everyone,

I have had numerous requests via PM for CRAZE information.  I hope that I have replied to you all but if I have not replied to anyone, my apologies.  Just send me an email and I will "jump" to it right away.

I will, however, be moving house next week but hopefully will be back online ASAP.

Unrelated Craze? Driving me Crazy!
« Reply #31 on: Thursday 13 September 07 13:16 BST (UK) »
Hello all - my name is Kelly and I've taken on the daunting task of tracing my maternal genealogy.  Never thought I'd get stuck so early on though - my great, great grandmother was Sarah J Craze, born 1847, and married a James Humphrey (born 1846) in 1867 in Bridgewater, Somerset County.  That's the earliest record I have of her, and I'm not even 100% sure that that is her!!  They had two children in England, Anna (1868) and Albert (1871) before moving to America between 1871-1872 and having Rose (1872), Harry (1874), William (1877), Alice (~1881), and Myrtle (1883).

I have fairly good records of them once they're over in America, but their early life is a blank!  Family lore says that Sara and James were from opposite sides of the country (Sara in Corwall, James in Dover) and were forbidden by their families to get married (something about Sara came from a wealthy family, while James' were sailors).

Can anyone help?  I don't have an ancestry.com membership (I'll save *that* rant for another time!), and I feel like I've googled myself silly over this.  Does anyone see a Sara J Craze born in 1847????

Thanks so much!

ladyrua,

I have looked for your Humphrey family in the free indexes and have found a possible for James Humphrey.

Free BMD: James Austin Humphrey, born Dec Quarter, 1844,  Dover  Vol 5 page 123
Anna Humphrey, born Dec Quarter, 1867,  Yeovil   Vol 5c page 457

Did you notice that the 1880 census states that Albert was born in the US?

Hi

I would be intrested in hearing how it all connects to the Harper and Northey names in your list.  My ancestor was Stephen Harper married Christina Eade in St Agnes Cornwall in 1836.  Their daughter Mary married Stephen Northey around 1860.  Other children of Stephen and Christina included Lavinia and Edwin.  The family moved from Cornwall to Camarthen then eventually settled in Flintshire, North Wales.  Any connection or just a co-incidence of surnames?
