Hi Pam,

I can't see them at first sight.

Do you have other details, such as birth places, children who might still be at home etc.?  :)

Louise Smith was in Much Marcle on the 1851 census, and described and unmarried , 52, and born in Lambeth Surrey.

Was William her brother ??

Hi,
I have a Louisa born Much Marcle 1799, and another born Lambeth.
The family in 1851 were:- Elizabeth 25, James 10, Louisa 24, Mary Emma 13, Sarah Ann 20, Thomas 18, William Henry 23, William 61. The mother does not appear on 1851. Looking at their ages again it may be that they all had left home by 1861. It is funny that on 1841 the mother appears but not William senior??
Another puzzle?

 Hi AndyT,

I would be very grateful for any info. on William Smith and Louisa, as I have come to a dead end. there seem to be too many William Smiths around that time and area and I haven't the resources to sort them out.
Regards
Pam

Hi Pam and Andy,

My family come from Hall Court - My Great Great Grandad George Smith ran away with Catherine Hobby, the wife of one of the farm labourer's and was cut off from the family.  I imagine the Wiliam you mention was his Grandfather as he is about 70 in the census.  George's brother was a gambler who ran away to Australia, and their Dad remarried after their mother died, and the family estate passed on to her children.  I'd love it if you could let me know anything about the family - it sounds as though we are all distantly related  ;D.

My Great Uncle has researched this side of the family, and I have recently been in touch with a second cousin who now has this, so may have a few bits and bobs to share at a later stage.

Hi Tamar,
Interesting info. I haven't looked in the Smith family history for several years. There were two sets of William Smiths and I could not verify either, so dead end.
It will take a while to sort out where I got to, but will do so if you need any info.
