Gravil - Goole
« on: Wednesday 24 November 04 19:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for my Great and Great Great grandparents who I believe may have been living in Goole  during the time of the 1891 census.

I am trying to locate the following people: 1891

Richard Gravil (Head) 29
Hannah Gravil (Wife) 27
George (Son)  6
Charles (Son) baby?

The ages may be slightly out and there may be some other older children. I have found these from the 1901 census.

I am also looking for their parents although these may have died by then but could be on the 1881 census.

James Gravil and Stephen Houghton ( Hannah's dad). I am sorry but do not have any other details for these two.

I would be grateful for any help.

Thanks.

Kristin,

This is brilliant - Richard and Hannah obviously met on the job - it really makes them real people.

Its strange though that there doesn't appear to be any other kids with the Houghtons- they usually have hundreds. If it's not too much trouble will you have a look on the 1871 for them as a young family.

Also the dates aren't right for this JamesGravil to be the father (maybe a brother)??

Thanks for all this  - not sure how you manage to read some of the records at that timein the morning!!

I am glad I could help.   Post a message on the west riding board or census look up board for a 1871 look up.  I am sure someone has access to the complete 1871.

I actually live in the US and it was 8pm when I did these.  Rootschat is pretty empty here in our timezone in the evening hours (I believe you are all 5 hours ahead of us.)

Let me know if you have any other questions.  It is always so nice to help others along with results!!  ;D Kristin

I have had another look at these people and it seems that Jemima Houghton was Stephen Houghton's second wife (not Hannah's mum).

Can someone please have a look for Stephen Houghton on the 1871 census with Hannah (born in Garthorpe, Linc) who would be around 7 and his wife (possibly a few other kids).

With regards to the Gravil family, I am still looking for the father of Richard Gravil (born c1862, Epworth).

On the 1871 census he should appear with his wife, son Richard (9) and possibly an older son James (15).
