Streets of Bray- COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 28 February 07 23:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone

its my first time on the Wicklow board and was hoping someone could help.

My Grandfather James O'Grady born in Borris in Ossory married Annastacia Furlong born in wexford in Bray 1912.

His occupation was shop assistant in main street, and her occupation was domestic in a place stated on certificate as "Ellerslie, Novarna Avenue"

I have found main Street easily enough but wondered if anyone knew of the Ellerslie, Norvarna Avenue.  I will be visiting Bray in August and would love to find out where my grandmother worked before she married but I cant seem to locate either places !  any help would be appreciated

Hi Carol, I don't know about Ellerslie (I would imagine thats the name of a house) but there is a Novara Avenue which is just off the main street and leads to the Bray Baroque, heading for the seafront. St Thomas and Bray Senior College is also on Novara. I would imagine that Novarna is a misspelling of Novara. Hope this helps.

Kate.

Hi again, there are Ellerslie Villa's on Sidmonton Road which leads off of Novara, so they could be a possibility.

Kate.

Hello Kate

thank you so much for your time, Ellerslie Villas look right on the cert as there is a word  after Ellerslie that I couldn't make out which could be Villas.  As she was a domestic at time I thought that it would be the name of a house.  My Grandfather worked in Main Street so this would be close by.  Thanks for the tips at least I know where to "wander" when I visit in August !
