Home Children to Canada on the Sarmation
« on: Saturday 03 March 07 21:12 GMT (UK) »
Kate GAY age 7 and Elizabeth GAY age 8 sailed to Canada on the Sarmation with Maria Rye's party in 1881.  They are probably my great aunts and I think they were placed for 'adoption' in Newcastle.  Now I am seeking any further information or ideas about their lives.

Charlotte GAY was their older sister and we think we have found her in Canadian censuses as a married woman named WAITE.  Any descendents out there?

Glad that you have started a thread for your own query, Connie ...
There are helpful people who have found information on some home children and made contact by finding this site.

Not sure if this would be Kate in 1901, Toronto- as year of immigration isn't listed but definitely born England...Do you have exact dates to match up for births? It would help to find them on this census...

!!!!!!!!!!
Oops, I came in throough your profile, and now I see that we're on the resources board!
We'll get this moved out quickly!  J.J.

John and Charlotte are in the 1911 census living in Frasurburg, Township of Muskoka in the 1911.

Their oldest is Irene Waite born 1895 in Muskoka, but I can't seem to find a marriage for John and Charlotte.
