Furness Vale - Cheshire or Drebyshire?
« on: Thursday 25 November 04 17:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

could somebody please help me?

I have looked long and hard for my Challenor ancestors.
I have now found my direct ancestors Richard and his son Simeon, in the 1861 and 1871 census returns for Furness Vale. This is now part of derbyshire but when the census was taken was in Cheshire.
To find details of Poll tax, Burgess lists etc for the village, do I go to Derbyshire or Cheshire Records offices?
Does anyone know where I can find out more about Furness Vale in the mid 19th century?

Regards

Jean Sandra

Hi Jean
I would send an email to Cheshire records office, asking the same question as your post, they will reply, hopefully with a list of records that they have.I suspect that Derbyshire may hold some as well, but try Cheshire first. email to: recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk
