1861/1871 census cardiff mills family

I think my Gran may have some photos. But they may only go back to Arthur Mills (William RG's son) generation. Not sure we'll have anything further back. Would probably not know if we did anyway as we've got no one to ask.

BTW - My grandfather's name was Leonard William Mills, not Leonard Arthur.

You should knock on the Fire Station door. That sounds fascinating. They may have some records.

Arthur Leonard Mills, William RG's son was a railway worker and his name is on a plaque in the bay listing the railway workers who served in WW1.

hi I am a Mills-my son e mailed me and put me on to this forum.i have done quite a bit of research-and have traced theMills family back to 1776-William and Ann Mills.
                                           1801-Son William born-marries Rebecca-born 1811 in Peters Marland-Devon.

George -born 1834-moved to Cardiff and became a grocers assistant living at 87 May Street.Had lots of children including my Great Gd Father-William R G.
As my son said-sadly our strain of the Mills name has died out-often wondered if there are any Mills' in Cardiff-related to  us.
one of William R Gs grandsons (through a daughter-so not a Mills)-Bill-was a Tory councellor for many years for the Canton ward.

Well that makes us cousins too.  George became a Blacksmith later and lived in Llys Talybont.  I'm guessing that's the old cottage off North Road.

Oh dear a Tory in the family - that's anathema to me.

I think it is only my aunty who is a Mills  (she is almost 90) is left from the early days.

Hi All, sorry to post to an old thread but just wondered if anyone was still working on this line?

I have just spent a week in Devon researching at the record offices in Barnstaple and Exeter and have got back as far as George Mill and Margery Copp who were the parents of William (Copp) Mills, husband of Rebecca Walter and father of George Mills who ended up in Cardiff.

Let me know if anyone still interested as it would be good to swap notes.

I did a family history on the Mills for a friend and what you have found does tie in , what I remember. I am out of country at mo  but if you want more info will have to look it up for you, But not sure if passed all info to friend.

Hi Cardiff, thanks for the info. I am pretty sure the records that I now have are correct, just wondered if anyone had managed to get further back than Geroge Mill and Margery Copp. I did manage to get back two further generations on Margery's side, to William Copp and Margery Hutchins, then John Copp and Hester Bunbury, if your friend is interested.
