I'll try to digest this veritable feast and will get back to you if there are any gaps left to fill.  Fantastic job.  Just wondering...are you a real Newfoundland Newfy?

Thanks again,  Geoff (Kelowna, BC)

I suspect that the ROP shown as a PoB in 1851 / 61 is Ross !

Hi !

I am a descendant of James Hodder, brother of your Albert Hodder. Are you still researching this branch of the Hodders?

Stuart.

Hi there!

So sorry to add on to this thread so long after it was posted, but I only just joined RootsChat, so I just came across it today while reading through the forums.

The Hodder family you're referring to here is my husband's family!  The Mary Ann Hodder you see in the 1861 census (age 19) was my husband's 2nd great-grandmother.

She actually had a baby boy out of wedlock in 1872, and she gave the baby HER last name (Fred Hodder) and would never tell anyone who the father was.
Fred Hodder was an only child, but he went on to marry a woman named Bertha Dawe in 1894, and they had TEN children together. (Elfie, Ivy, George, Beatrice, Olive, Maud, Phyllis, Harold, Kenneth, and John.)  His son Kenneth is my husband's grandfather.  Kenneth immigrated to the United States in 1938, and settled in New York.

Anyway, it's been an interesting read!  If you're still looking for information about that branch of the family, I might be able to fill in some of the blanks.
