Royal artillery gunner Michael McElligott lockup military ID
« on: Sunday 11 March 07 23:53 GMT (UK) »
This is my last resource to find out my Greatgreatgrandfather Michael McElligott military Id, a gunner in the Royal Artillery in Woolwich in 1873.
This info would help me to complete my family tree. Could someone be able to locate this info for me as it is impossible to go to KEW since I am from Canada.

Thanking you in advance and this is the greatest web for genealogy research.

Alain

This National Archives at Kew website might help.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/

I tried the site & entered Michael McElligott in the advanced search slot, LH side of screen, they have a medal record for a Michael McElligott, WW1 Private, Royal Munster Fusiliers, Regiment no 9596 in docs WO372/12.

Meliora,

Unfortunately Michael immigrated in Canada via New York in 1887. So this would not be my Michael in WW1.

Thanks anyway I know eventually we will find the wright Michael.

Hello, Alan,

Did you obtain the discharge papers from the National Archives at Kew ? If so, the attestation (joining up) papers are usually attached.

As you have the discharge doc numbers, try an enquiry at the Nat Arch. quoting these numbers, asking for the attestation papers, these usually give details given on enlisting, plus a personal description.

Good luck,

Meliora
