Parents' marriage entry on IGI:

JOHN ANDERSON     Marriages: Spouse: JANE MCKAY
Marriage:  08 MAR 1872  Fogo, Berwick, Scotland

And oldest son's birth details also on IGI:

WALTER ANDERSON  Birth: 16 JUN 1872 Longformacus, Berwick, Scotland

Iceman, I'm not sure if you want to go back or forward...or both ;) If you can let us know what info you already have and what areas in particular you are keen to research further, it would help people when doing any searches.

Regards.

Monica

Hi Monica, thanks for the info that is my family, have traced the family back to my Great Great Great Grandfather James Anderson born 1795, place unknown but possibly Fogo, married Janet Moffat date unknown, I only have the record of 1 child Walter Anderson born 1822 at Ancrum he married Christian Service 1st June 1849 at Whitsome & Hilton, so I am trying to go back from James Anderson 1795, what I was trying to do with James Anderson born 1881 was trace his movements, I have him on the
1881 census at Bogend Agricultural Labourers Cottages, No7 Fogo aged 4 months

Thanks to you
1891 census at Cothill Farm, Polwarth.  Aged 10

I know he was in Edinburgh around 1903.

Thanks so much for your help.

This looks like the marriage of James Anderson and Janet Moffat, an actual extract from the OPRs on IGI (you should be able to view the original entry on Scotlands People):

JAMES ANDERSON  Marriages: Spouse: JANET MOFFAT
Marriage:  30 APR 1815  Ancrum, Roxburgh, Scotland

Two more children showing for them on IGI, one is a submitted entry and the other an actual extract. However, George's entry is backed up by an OPR entry on SP:

1. GEORGE ANDERSON   Birth: 22 JUN 1825/ Christening: 28 AUG 1825 Cavers, Roxburgh, Scotland (submitted entry)
2. JOHN ANDERSON Birth: 26 MAR 1820/ Christening: 1820 Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland (actual extract).

Regards.

I wonder if James Snr is older than you think. There is an entry on the 1841 Census that might fit. Remember the ages in the 1841 census were rounded down to the nearest five years. Everyone showing as born outside the county except Robert:

James, 55, in..(? not sure what occupation should be, this is all that shows. It could also be short for independent).
Jennet, 55
Robert, 25, shoemaker, b. Midlothian
Jannet, 20
George, 15, app. S Carp.

Address: Cannon St, North Leith, Midlothian

Have you viewed Walter's DC, does it show father James's occupation?

Walter's entries:

Family in 1851:
Walter Anderson 29, agri. lab. b. Ancrum
Christian Anderson 24, b. Greenlaw
Elisabeth Anderson 1
Agnes Anderson    10, Daughter, b. Ancrum (you will have to look at the original image on this one, relationship to head may not be correct..unless Walter was married before)

Address: The Inn, Whitsome, Berwickshire

And in 1861:
Walter Anderson 38, Contractor Of Excavations, b. Ancrum
Christian Anderson 33, b. Greenlaw, Berwickshire
Elisabeth Anderson 11
James Anderson    9
John Anderson    8
William Anderson 7
Robert Anderson 5
Janet Anderson    3
Isabel Service Anderson 2
George Anderson 4 Mo

Address:  Scotstown 89 Labourers Cottage, Langton, Berwickshire

The Agnes Anderson who shows as daughter to Walter is out of the home working by 1861:

John Ewart, 24, ploughman, head
Ann Ewart, 25, wife
Agnes Anderson, 20, agri. lab., b. Ancrum

Address: Edrom Newton Ploughman's House, Edrom, Berwickshire

Have you got the 1871 entry or do you want me to post? I don't know if you have seen it, but Robert's, son, birth was in 1855, the magic year for BMDs in Scotland. That first year of official registration in Scotland resulted in a wealth of additional info for one year only. Certainly one to look at on SP if you haven't already:

ROBERT ANDERSON   Birth: 07 SEP 1855 Edrom, Berwick, Scotland

Did Walter die in 1895? Have you had a look at the Will & Inventories section on SP? These look like likely entries for him following his death:

Anderson Walter   16/11/1895   Contractor, Horndean Bank, County of Berwick, d. 01/10/1895 at Horndean Bank, testate    @ Duns Sheriff Court Inventories   Ref: SC60/41/39 and Inventory Ref: SC60/44/9
