Hi to you all,

A big thank you I am so excited at your results.

Especially about the stone mason connection as I know one of the Butler boys was a stone mason who worked on the first bridge built over to Anglesey.
I have been told his name is carved either on the bridge or a memorial in Bangor.  Hoping to go for a week end in the summer to see if I can find it.

The other Butler brother was said to of had a cab business so it looks like you are all on the right track.

Sorry I didn't think to put the occupation in my first message, but I was thinking of names and it didn't enter my head to mention occupations.

Once again thankyou to every one who is helping me.

I will check the 1841 census later today for ANY Butlers in Bangor.
Can't remember when (70s or 80s)  but there was a Butler who was on the City council. As there aren't that many Butlers in Bangor just wondering if he was some distant relative.
There is a memorial in the cemetary right alongside the Britannia bridge for people who died working on that Bridge but I don't know where the memorial is for the Menai Bridge.
I do have a largish collection of photos for the Menai Bridge churchyard (the one on the island) but the only memorial I can remember is the one at the highest point for people who died in the two wars.

Hi again WelshGen,

Yes the Butler who was on the council was Evelyn, she was the Mayor of Bangor. Evelyn was married to my husbands cousin Frank Butler.  Sadly Frank died and with him my most likely source of info.
Frank was one of Harry Butlers sons.

My father in law was Thomas Ivor and his brother was Harry. The info I am trying to find is on their father, my husbands grandfather and any other ancestors.

I have now found out that The name of John Butler (the grandfather) who worked as a stone mason on the bridge is on a Clock in Bangor, maybe that is where I was mixed up with the memorial.

Thanks again for your help.

The Town clock of Bangor is the one showing in my logo. I remember Evelyn Butler, she was a nice lady, always stopped to chat to anyone who wanted to. Small World.
