Hi any information on Patricia Tyrell from Arklow she married Patrick Branson late 1800's and moved to England south London area, where they had a haulage business. They had 4 children [we think] Patricia, Eva Gladys, Gwen, and Aubry, maybe another boy. Thanks. S.

Hi, Re: Gina45's post. The shipbuilding the Tyrrells are noted for was started by Michael Tyrrell. His son John started John Tyrrell & Sons, which then passed to his son Jack (of Asgard 11 fame). Jack's brothers were also heavily involved in the maritime industry. Michael owned and operated coastal steamers, Joe was initially a woodwork teacher and then started Tuskar Boats in Wexford, and Willie started Arklow Engineering, now part of the Arklow Marine Services group. There were also 2 sisters who I haven't been able to track down yet, but 1 of whom married a farmer in the Wicklow area.

Jimmy Tyrrell of lifeboat notoriety, mentioned earlier in the thread, is a cousin of my father, son of Joe.

There's also another family offshoot in Canada apparently. Michael (? I need to check) a cousin of Michael, Jack, Joe, & Willie lived in Vancouver and taught at a maritime college there, after a colourful career at sea as a senior engineer aboard tankers after WW2.

I am researching a George Francis Tyrrell born 1836 from Wicklow. I believe I have found a record of  baptism for him in Rathdrum COI in 1836, parents George Tyrrell a carpenter, and Sarah ( no surname given). George Francis firstly married a Rebecca Sweaney in Dublin in 1858 , register states George Francis and Rebecca were from Arklow. George Francis's second marriage was to a Susan Tyndall in 1862. The family story believes  George Francis Tyrrell is connected to the Arklow ship building Tyrrels but so far I have been unable to make a connection.

Been reading about the Kearon conection to the Tyrells
Im from Dun Laoghaire and lived in the cottages behind the Town Hall (ugly new apartments now)
and the Harbour Mastefs House was at top of lane as you came in off Crofton Road
Reggie Kearon was Harbour Master at the time and I used tp play with his daughter Elizabeth
Tragically he was drowned in 1958/59 in the lifeboat tragedy which saw most of the lifeboat crew lose their lives
Little did I know then that I would find a family connection to the Tyrells
