Thanks Suz.

Indeed her father as recorded on marriage cert is  William.

I told you last week we were visiting the family cemetry and pub where one of our ancestors was the inkeeper. We found the cemetry and memorial to our ancestors. The pub..... recently converted to appartments!!

The family were gutted! That was to be the in laws birthday present -  Lunch in the pub that connects with their past. We took them home and had a take away instead!

Any luck with 1861. I do know Eliza was living in Swansea, Castle Square,  in 1868 where she met and married Levi. I know it's not a great distance from where she lived, but it appears the rest of her family stayed where they wer born (according to 1881 census).

Thanks Suz

I'm wondering what took Eliza to Swansea between 1861 and 1868 (apart from Levi). I suppose one can only speculate.

I've found her brother George on the 1881 census - one of 13 household members. It looks as though he's looking after Mother in Law and family, but again still in Pembrey.

On the Marriage Cert where Eliza's signature would be it says " The mark X of Eliza Ray" I take it that she was unable to read and write - I realise this was probably quite common in those days, but still intrigued as to how and why she went to Swansea.
