I have the court document of Anthony Conning from Scotlands people wills and documents.

09/06/Conning,Anthony[ReferenceSC16/41/6 Kirkcudbright Sherriff Court}
Dont know how to upload it

He leaves a sloop and apparel to the value of £89.8s.9d. and his wife Jean (Jane) Conning interrogated in court swears she is his wife Jean Wilson alias Conning says that he died in the year 1826 11th December.

I need to find out how to get the marriage or death particulars of Anthony Conning who was a mariner in Kirkcudbright.

I have Jean Conning in all the censuses living in Liverpool under the name of Jane except the 1841 where I think she may have been still in Scotland.

My gg grandmother was Janet Conning [born abt 1810 in Glenluce Parish, Wigtownshire].  I believe she was the daughter of John Conning and Agnes Gibson [information from my grandmother].  Janet Conning married Robert Logan [born 1804 in Portyerrock, Wigtownshire] in 1830.  They emigrated to the US in 1834 along with Janetís unmarried brother, Anthony Conning.  The Logans and Anthony Conning settled in Medina County, Ohio, where Anthony married a widow named Mary Curtis.

Do you think there could be any family connection?

I dont really know if there could be a connection as I have no information other than Jean(Jane)Wilson married Anthony Conning but no proof. and had a daughter Agnes Conning in 1816 in Kirkcudbright verified by parish records and she had a brother James Conning living with Agnes in the 1841 census and her husband Robert Couper and daughter Jane Couper and then James lived in Liverpool with Jean and Agnes and Jane Couper.

hello there,

To view the pages from Scotlandspeople (wills and Testements)

You need to click on the buy logo for the particular will you wish to view.  When you have got the pages up to view you can download them to your computer from the viewing 'box'

each will costs £5 but you only have to pay for it once and can go back and check it again and again.

I also found Jean Conning on the 1841 Census with family

Details are as follows:

Milburn Street, Kirkcudbright

Jean Conning aged 40 wife of a Mar (sic) born in county

Jean Conning aged 15 F S Born in County

Robert Conning aged 11 Ag Lab Born in County

Alexander Conning aged 10 Mar S Ap  Born in County

James Conning aged 8 Born in County

David Conning aged 6 Born in County

Thomas Conning aged 4 bonr in County

Nathanial Conning aged 1 born in County

It was the only "Conning' Family in the 1841 that I could find with Jean as mother

Best wishes

Mo

Thank you Moscan
I already have the document from Scotlands people and the census above is not my Jean usually noted as Jane.

Her children were older than this and two of them Agnes and James were together on the 1841 scotland census living in Glasgow.

I don't know if you have seen this site: www.old-kirkcudbright.net/genealogy/oprDeaths/1826-28.asp

There is a death showing for an Arthur Conning with the precise date that Jane Wilson is stating as his death:

11-Dec  1826     Conning  Arthur Kirkcudbright     M     41     Water in chest

Regards.

Apart from Agnes, there are a few more children showing for Anthony and Jean, including the James you already have. You cannot tell from the entries for James and John whether they are birth or christening entries on the OPRs:

1. 25/09/1819   CONNING   ANTHONY Parents:ANTHONY CONNING/JANE WILSON FR250   M   @ Kirkcudbright   /KIRKCUDBRIGHT   871/ 0010 0475

2. 12/11/1821   CONNING   JAMES   Parents: ANTHONY CONNING/JANE WILSON FR375   U   @ Kirkcudbright   /KIRKCUDBRIGHT   871/ 0020 0008

3. 12/11/1821   CONNING   JOHN   Parents: ANTHONY CONNING/JANE WILSON FR375   U   @ Kirkcudbright   /KIRKCUDBRIGHT   871/ 0020 0008

Thank you for this information as I did hear last night on Scotish Family Tree Forum of the death of Arthur Conning being the same day.

I did not know of Anthony Connings birth only that of John and James so there were four children.

Thank you againMonicaLesl

Hi

Do you know a Conning and a boat or ship called the Nithsdale of Dumfries by any chance?

Regards
