1920's Belfast / Barrow in Furness Poorhouses

Looking for Haywood children Alice, Sarah, Lily, James and Mary in a poor/workhouse, early 1920's either in Belfast NI or Barrow in Furness Lancashire.

Any help, tips, answers or advice welcome.

i've just read a book about Edwin Chadwick,the poor law and public health. Author Roger Watson.
very interesting,and showing that even today, not a lot has changed.
anyway, back to the question all i can suggest is that if possible, Tony looks in the local libary or local Record Office, where the Poor Law collections may be kept.might mean a trip up to Belfast..

The LDS Family History Library (FHL) in Salt Lake City, has filmed copies of poor law records deposited at PRONI. To access the poor law records, check the Family History Library Catalog (FHLC) under Ireland, County - Poor Law

The county libraries in Ireland hold some poor law records. Most prevalent are the Board of Guardian minute books. Libraries may also have copies of rate books. An excellent bibliography of sources available for the counties of Limerick, Clare and Tipperary is The Poor Law Records of Counties Limerick, Clare and Tipperary, which was published as a supplement to the North Munster Antiquarian Journal in 1979.

The National Archives  has a good collection, which contains a large quantity of County Dublin poor law union material. They have the minutes of the boards of guardians for the North and South Dublin Unions extending from 1840 to 1920. In 1920 the two unions were merged and the records of the united unions are available to 1938. The registers of admissions and discharges from these workhouses are available from 1840 to 1920.

Dear Tony,

All links to Workhouse and Poorhouses are listed under the Counties.

For information as recent as the 1920's you are best to initially make contact with the Local Services for that area but they may be limited to what they can tell you, due the year.

You would need to write a letter telling them as much information that you know. Ie Full names, dates of birth, addresses mother and father names ages etc etc and then you must state you connection to the family and your reason for your research.

Then you need to state your questions being as direct as possible.
