Hi Balloonatic

Your great grandfather - Arthur Swarbrick, was brother to my great grandmother - Sarah Louisa Swarbrick, who married Robert Seddon.

Arthur and Sarah's parents were Samuel Swarbrick (who was the accountant for the Midland Railway, and then General Manager of the Great Eastern Railway Company in England) and Sarah Fawcett.

Robert Seddon and Sarah Louisa Swarbrick had 3 sons and 1 daughter:- Professor Herbert Robert Seddon (who helped set up the veterinary school in Sydney), Samuel Thomas Seddon, Diamond Seddon, and my grandfather George Hume Seddon, who was a lawyer and became Register General of the land and deeds dept.

I have a little info. on the Swarbrick family if you are interested.  Sarah L. left a family tree which I have in my possession.  I can post you a copy if you let me have your details.

Jenn

Dear Christine and Jenn,

Jonathan Swarbrick was born in 1846 in Upper Rawcliffe the son of John Swarbrick and Alice [Parkinson] - John and Alice had nine children in total and I have some information on this Swarbrick family.

Sarah Louise Swarbrick was born in Manchester in 1849 the daughter of Samuel Swarbrick and his wife Sarah [Fawcett] - Samuel and Sarah had ten children in total and again I have a fair amount of data on this family.

I can send you a file with all the data I hold if you would please send me a PM so that we can exchange email addresses.

regards,

I know this post is really old but here goes...

In the original post Andy was looking for descendants of William Swarbrick and Prudence who went to NZ on The Lady Jocelyn.

Prudence is my ancestor. She and William married in 1880 just before setting sail to NZ. I think they had an additional two children in NZ, but unfortunately by 1892 all of the children and William had died. Prudence returned to England and remarried.

Would love to be in contact with anyone who knows anything about this family's life in NZ.
Thanks
Tracy

Hi Tracey,
Welcome to Rootschat ;D

There appear to be 3 children born to this couple between 1880-1890 in N.Z.

Jocelyn Jenkins SWARBRICK 1881
Ruth Alice                "            1882
Margaret Isabella    '            1885

Cant help you with their life but thought you might like names of children :D

Jocelyn died 1888 aged 7yrs and Ruth 1885 aged 3.
as this website is fairly new can not find death of William or Margaret on it yet.

I am sure other people with connections to this family will contact you soon. You need to make abt 3 postings before you activate the PM (personal message) system.

Good luck with it all ;)

Trish

Is it possible that Margaret Isabella did not die?

There are 2 possible marriages for her under the name Isabella;

1901 to  Walter Joshua WADHAM
1917 to  Henry Christian ROSACKER

All searchable on;

thank you - very helpful.  ;D

I know that William and Jocelyn were buried in Waikumete cemetery having found there records online but the other two children are not mentioned.  I do not know that the other children died but there is no mention of them in the 1901 census in England where I have found Prudence remarried and widowed again. I would have thought she was rather young to leave behind but she may have stayed on with Williams brother Jonathon and his family I suppose.

In a ships diary I have found online it talks about the birth of Jocelyn as being a sign of future success and a happy omen for those on board the lady Jocelyn - not so for poor Prudence I feel.

Thanks again
Tracy
