lo ho keeper
« on: Saturday 31 March 07 12:26 BST (UK) »
Hello to you all. Come across a bit of a mystery, well to me any way! Tracing my 2x G Grandparents, and found one of thir sons a Thomas Lawrence, born 1844 Nutfield Surrey, has married and living in Brighton Sussex as a Lo Ho Keeper in Powis Square on the 1881 census. Any one any idea what he is doing for a living??Futher down the census there is someone else doing it, so not uncommon. Grateful for any suguestions

Given that the 2nd instance looks like Bo: Ho: Keeper, I'd say yours is Lodging House Keeper - altho he isnt over-crowded in the house !
