the geneologist site
« on: Monday 02 April 07 21:13 BST (UK) »
hi there, can anyone tell me if the bmd on this site are more complete than the free bmd ones.i have been searching a marriage now for eighteen months to no avail.i cannot see it on the actual images pages on free bmd either. the geneologist site says you can search the indexes and i am wondering if this means you can put in spouse nameetc like you can on free bmd.
it seems you can only subscribe to it for a year, not pay per view like ancestry so am wondering if it would be worth it or not,any advice appreciated, elaine

Hi Elaine

Have you tried trawling through the images (quarter by quarter) which are currently free to view http://www.ancestry.co.uk ?

Choose the Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983 option

Hi
I agree with Casalguidi that ancestry is good for this, but you can choose the partial index as it brings up individual results and you don't have to trawl the image. I don't actually know whether it brings up all the results that are in the images, but it worked for me, so it might be worth trying first.

It's very hard work trawling through the BMD indexes on Ancestry. I don't know whether the Genealogist differs in content, but it's much easier to search. The images load really quickly and a colour change shows you clearly which images you have already looked at. I have a subscription to both, and always search the BMD indexes on the Genealogist.
