Hi Linda (the search goes on)
I’ve checked Stoke St. Milb. census for 1841 & regret no Richard, Mary & Richard.
For your information I found:
Thos. Humphry, his wife Elizth. & family
John & Sarah Humphry
Margaret Humphries living with John Jones & wife Jane.
I’ve made a note of the additional census details and if you want them just let me know.
I also checked the 1851 just to make sure I wasn’t going blind and indeed found Richard Humphries aged 15 Blacksmiths apprentice. Place of birth was given as Herefordshire, and at first glance it is Ludford, but the original appears to have been spelt Ledford?
Interesting that apprentice Richard is living with a John Jones, albeit his wife is listed as Mary – always funny coincidences to annoy!
I’ve had to do some serious searching for Ludlow and surrounding areas with my own tree and can confirm that there are a fair few Humphries of varying spellings. A Richard (shoemaker), Mary & family (no son called Richard) are listed for example as living in Corve Street, Ludlow in the 1851 census. If you want me to make a note of any I come across, please let me know.
I may make one more visit to the library next week, so if you need anything checking urgently, pls let me know asap.
All the best
John
