Falkirk Herald, 7th April 1917, ‘Camelon – Local Canadian Wounded’News has reached Falkirk that Bandsman James McGowan of the Canadians, whose father, Mr. Samuel McGowan, resides at Lime Road, Falkirk, has been wounded in action. Bandsman McGowan who is a native of Camelon, left there several years ago for Canada. Soon after the outbreak of was he enlisted in the Grenadier Guards. For the past seven months he has been on active service. Before emigrating to Canada, he was employed as an engineer at Messrs. J. Ross and Co’s. Chemical works. An elder brother, Sam McGowan, is at present at the front with the Canadians.
