I am looking for any information about the Tuke family.  John Tuke and his wife Ann Robinet, they had a son John born 1836 who moved to England.  He married Mary Brown (nee Harrison)at Whitehaven, Cumberland in 1862 at and had 5 children.

I have managed to find out a little bit more :)

John Tuke and Anne Roberts (Robinet) were married on 29/10/1832 in Castlemacadam.  John's address was listed as Knockenree and Anne was Castlemacadam. Their religion was COI and Best man was recorded as George Kemmis and Matron of Honor Charles Roberts.  No parents names were recorded.  John and Anne had 8 children:

Elizabeth 17/11/1833
John 27/3/1836 (John moved to England and married Mary Brown nee Harrison)
Maria 2/5/1841
Susannah 17/8/1843
Anne 14/6/181846
Dorah 10/3/1850
Jemmima 17/10/1852
Thomas Benjamin 25/11/1855

Their address was listed as Tigroney, Castlemacadam.

I also have info on a George Tuke and Ann Mates (Meates) who married in 1830.  George was also from Knockenree and I wondered if he was John's brother?  I have no parent's details, but George and Ann did have 6 children.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any info or advice on how to progress further.

Hi Christopher

Yes I have seen the info prior to posting, but unfortunately Griffiths Valuation does not give any other information so is not really a reliable tool when searching for family records.

Hi bitza,

Griffiths Valuation is an excellent tool. It's a good starting point and in many instances people have been able to use it to establish a townland where their ancestors originally lived.

The Parish Registers should give you more information. If they're not held in local custody they should be at the RCB Library, Braemor Park, Churchtown, Dublin 14. The present day Holy Trinity Church is situated in the townland of Kilqueeny.  It is called Castlemacadam because it was built to replace the old church at Castlemacadam in 1870

In his book "Maritime Arklow", the author Frank Forde mentions a schooner named Henry Tuke which was built in Arklow in 1841 and owned by John Henry Tuke of Ferrybank.  There is also mention of another schooner named Secret, built in Arklow 1857 and also owned by John Henry Tuke.

There is a place named Ferrybank in Wexford.  Not sure if there is a Ferrybank in Wicklow also.  Maybe someone can confirm.

Cheers

Hi

The Irish Times of 25 August 1894 had a Death Notice for -
George Tuke of Ovoca (outside Arklow), who died 16th August 1894.
There were no further details.
