Does anyone know if there are any Kirk records online for Rerrick, Kirkcudbright around  1841?

Hello Bitza

I don't believe that the Kirkcudbrightshire ones are. I had to go to Edinburgh to look up the ones I needed.

Yeah I thought that might be the case, but I should be able to view them at Dumfries somewhere though?

I'm not sure about that. The ones I needed were only available in Edinburgh. Some individual Kirks made copies before they were sent there but not all.

It might be worth contacting the Ewart Library in Dumfries

 or the Kirkcudbright Museum

just in case.

I'm betting that you'll have to go to Edinburgh.

I was lucky with Parton - they had sensibly copied their's and I was able to get sight of them. Balmaclellan and Kells and Kirkmabreck were in the Captital  :(

You're probably right, but I will give them a try first, I'm in Edinburgh in May for a wedding, but that's over the bank holiday so won't be able to visit then, just have to get the hubby to treat me to another mid-week break up there! lol

Last time I went never even got to the records office spent the 2 days catching up with relatives!!

I was just in Edinburgh working with the Kirk Session records of Rerrick and you will have to use them at the West Registry House in Charlottes Square. Unfortunately this parish has not been digitalized so it isn't on the Virtual library on the Archives computer so you needn't go to the main Register House as they will refer you to the West House and it is best to order the book you need and have it sent to the West Register House. The number of the archive you need for Rerrick is CH2/ 311/11.  But for the period you are wanting the book is for 1827-1870 and very easy to read, the pennmanship is very clear and I found it very interesting reading.
Eventually all of these session records will be digitalized and available on the Scotlands People site sometime in 2008 or 09. I am in the archive program at the U of Dundee and one my fellow classmates has worked on this project.

Hope this helps.
