Hi Mary

On Birth certificates that I have it says that my grandfather Nicholas Brennan was born in 1909 his place of Birth was Killina in Carbury, Edenderry Co Kildare he died in 1971.  His father was James Brennan and his mother was Mary Brennan nee Cross. Mary died very young at the age of 46 in 1917.   My great great-grandmother was Ann Brennan she died in 1899 at the age of 80 she was a window James her son was with her when she died.

The other certificate that I have says that Mary Cross was born in 1873 her father was Patrick Cross and Margaret Cross nee Gogerty.

That is all I have so far on the Brennan from Carbury.  Hopefully you will be able to add this for me

Kind regards

emilyrose

Hiya emilyrose and maryderry,

I've spotted a reference to Kilshanroe National School at Kilshanroe, Carbury,  Kildare. I think it was closed in
the 1940s and replaced by a new building. I'm not certain when the original school was built but thought this information might be of some assistance.

The Kildare History and Family Research Centre at Riverbank, Main St., Newbridge have the following information for the Roman Catholic Parish of Carbury ....

Baptisms: 1821–1899
Marriages: 1821–1887
Deaths: 1847-1978

Chris

Do you have them in the census records?
The earliest surviving complete census is 1901. This is not indexed so you need to check all around Edenderry. 1911 census is also released. These are available at the National Archives in Dublin and on film at your local family history centre. (Church of the latter day saints) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp for your nearest. The 1911 census gives age, relationship to head of household, marital status, occupation, county of birth and for wives it give no of years married, no of children born and how many children still survive.

Hi Emily,

I know it's been years but I came across this post as I am researching the Cross and Brennan family of Ticknevin for a friend....she would be your 2nd cousin once removed, as her great grandfather was Paddy Brennan b 1901, Nicholas' older brother. Please email me if you get this. (*)
