Thanks Larkspur for this information. This is my grandfather's family.

It is actually Fred Saxton Senior (William Henry's brother) I am now looking for on the 1911 census.

There is a marriage of a Fred Saxton on freeBMD Sept 1912 to an Ada Buxton of Nottingham which sounds promising.

I wonder if there are any records of his WW1 service on Ancestry.

He may be the Fred Saxton who died 22nd March 1918, details of which had been supplied above.

There is a medal card for William H Saxton of the Glouc Rgt he was a private number 16367 and Killed in Action. But looking at CWGC this was William Harold. There are no others I could find.

There is however a death for a William H Saxton in Lichfield born abt 1882 died aged 79 Oct 1961 9b/170.

Thanks Larkspur.

Yes, that was my grandfather's death you found in 1961. It was a sad business; I remember it well.

That's exciting to find a mention of Ada again. It must be great uncle Fred. I wonder if there were any children from that union.

Strange, isn't it, but my son had lodgings in Lenton when a student at Nottingham Uni.

Thanks for your trouble.

Thanks a lot.

Once when I visited my uncle Fred Saxton (named after the deceased one) he showed me a polished brass shell case inscribed with his uncle's name. I would love to see that again.

Was this a common practice?
