Hi Patrish,
I had looked at that entry, but the date/birthplace was a little out.
However after your posting and a revisit,I think he is the one.
IGI entry is Abt and Burghclere is close to Newbury.

Hello cousin!

I just had to do a quick check but I was sure Samuel was on my Baverstock tree and yes he is.  As far asI know (from another researcher) he was the youngest son of John Baverstock and Sarah Lambden of Newtown, Hampshire and was born in 1800. He had a brother named Timothy and a brother named James (born 1827) from whome I descend.

The problem over place names (ie Newbury and Newtown) seems to have occured beacuse of where Samuel's son John lived and died. He was born in Newtown, Hampshire and died at 11 Church Almshouses, Newbury in 1909.

My 3x great grandfather John Baverstock was also born in Newtown, also in 1827 so for a while it was confusing as to which was mine. Samuel's son married Jane Greenaway and my John married Hannah Head - from Newbury so it seems likely the two branches of the family knew each other.

Newtown is not very far from Newbury and so contact between the two areas was possible.  The date you have for transportation also fits with what I have, I have two children:

John born 1827
Ann - no date yet.

I have the Baverstock tree back to 1732 and would be happy to share any info with you.

I have sent you a PM too.

Matt

I should also mention that "Uncle Timothy" might be a relative of Samuel's mother Sarah Lambden. Her father was Timothy Lamden and it is possible she had a brother named Timothy although I have not found any yet.

I wonder if this is 'my' Samuel Baverstock. Possibly married Mary Herring in Tasmania on 2 April 1844. By 1845 he was in South Australia, living at Reedbeds. Died 9 January 1892 aged 93 years.  Was a noted bird catcher.

Hi Outfit,

Samuel Baverstock is my GG Grandfather. What you state there is correct.

Where do you live and what is your connection?

Oh, how exciting! Samuel is my GG Grandfather too. I live in South Aust and my GGrandmother, Emily Ann was born to Samuel and Mary on 20 March 1852 at the Reedbeds.  Emily Ann married Charles Archibald Miller on 6 May 1873.  She gave birth to my grandfather William James Miller on 22 Dec 1880. So sadly, she died six days later.

I didn't know there were other members of the family out there. Please tell me more.

I'm currently living in Perth WA, but originally also from Adelaide SA.
You have plenty of live relatives living in SA.
Oldest Baverstock being Don, born 1932
Cheers
