REID John...LEARY Mary...
« on: Saturday 21 April 07 20:13 BST (UK) »
Hi all
I would love to be able to find my John Reid and family. John married Mary in Gympie, Queensland Australia 2.7.1890. On the marriage cert John is listed as being born in Alyth, Perthshire, Scotland. His parents are listed as Alexander Reid & Annie Edward. Mary Leary is listed as being born London, England. Her parents are listed as Michael Leary & Margaret Driscoll. I would love to find other siblings for John & extended families of Alexander & Annie.
Any info greatly appreciated.
Regards
Karen

Hi Karen

Two questions from me  :) What was John's approximate birth year (from his marriage/death certs). Also what occupation did he give for his father Alexander?

Given the period we are talking about here, there is only one John Reid showing to parents Alexander and Ann Edward and he was born in Angus in 1863.

Regards.

Was Mary Leary quite young when she married in 1890?

There's one possibility for her in the English 1881 Census:

Michael LEERY, foreman, 31, b. West Meath, Ireland
Margaret, 31, b. Cork, Ireland
James, 5, b. London
Mary, 3, b. London

Address:9 Crossley Street, London

I do hope this is your Mary. More often than not, Irish birth places would simply show as born in Ireland, with no indication as to where. However, for this entry both Michael and Margaret show where they were from in Ireland...fingers crossed  :)

There is another Michael & Margaret couple showing (also Irish) with a daugher Mary b. 1875 in Deptford Kent, border county to London.

Regards.

Hi brucey

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

Karen hasn't been online here since 2012 but should receive an email notification that you have posted and hopefully come back soon.

Once she does that you can exchange your address with her on the personal message system.
