Hi Jen
Thanks for the feed back regarding Pontygwaith I am not muddled up there is I know a pontygwaith in the Rhondda but there is or was a pontygwaith in the area of Fiddlers elbow a junction where you turn off to go to Nelson or straight on to Merthyr, of course they have straightened that road out now so there is'nt a fiddlers elbow. To get to this road you leave Pontypridd go through Cilfynydd  thats the old road to Merthyr. The road is still there but no the elbow! Ha! Ha! This sounds daft!!!!! ;D ???

Hi there
Pontygwaith [Bridge of the Works] between Quakers Yard and Mount Pleasant still exists, but now has only 4 houses. The original community comprised about 20 houses and farms but most were knocked down when the new A470 was built from Fiddlers Elbow to Merthyr in the 80s
Surname Interests
Massey, Munkley, Powell, Thompson, Thurkettle

fiddlers elbow is would have come under the LLanfabon Parish .
There is a Graveyard on the side of the mountain side which can be seen from the A470 road at the junction roundabout for Abercynon / Nelson /Quakers yard.
i believe these are the areas.
Abercynon side of river would be listed within llanwonno census area.
The merthyr side of the river came under LLanfabon parish area.
Then halfways to Cilfynydd it changed to the Eglwysillan parish.

hope this helps.
