Very confused!! Almost identical families!?
« on: Thursday 26 April 07 20:25 BST (UK) »
Hi all!

Im wondering whether SKS could help me work out the mess i have found myself in!
Here are the details i have collected thus far:

Enoch Bailey b) Abt 1897 married Mary Bradford 5th July 1915

Enochs parents are:

Isaac Bailey and Eliza Buttery m)1896
(am awaiting the marriage Cert!)

Isaac Bailey b) Abt 1865 in Dawley Shropshire

Parents of Isaac unknown until arrival of certificate.

Eliza Buttery b) abt 1866 Dawley, Shropshire

 Parents             George and Emily Buttery.

I have the 1901 census with family as follows:

RG 13/3139 p45

Isaac Head of household
Eliza Wife
and also Herbert Buttery (Eliza's brother) living in same household.

I have gone back on the census' and found Eliza and Herberts parents on the 1891 census (RG12/2653 p62) and also on the 1881 (Rg11/3316 p69). Eliza is not living at home on this census, on the 1891 census her occupation is listed general servant so presumably she was away from home working.
When i have searched for her i have found many Eliza Buttery's born around the same time and working as servants!!
There are also so many George Buttery's on the 1871 census that i cannot seem to work out which one is mine!

I do hope someone has understood this rabble and can offer some help!

Kind Regards

makayla.

Hi Makayla,

Perhaps a red herring but have a look at RG10/2750 12 18 in 1871.

Dawley, Shropshire
Dawley Green Lane

Emily Lomas, head, 24, unm, 24, Pit Girl, b. Dawley
George, son, 1, b. do.

2 households away:
Hannah Lomas, wid, 55, b. Wellington
Thomas, son, 22
John, son, 17
Sarah, dau, 11
Eliza, dau, 4
William, son, 3

The little ones somehow seem too young to be Hannah's children ...
(and indeed, going back to 1861, Emily is Hannah's daughter)

There's a possible marriage:
Dec 1871 Wellington, Sh.  6a 1548
George Buttery  to possibly Emily Lomas

The most likely George seems to be at RG10/2750 27 48

You are a star!!!

This was a thought of mine as i had found George Buttery living at home in 1871 and he was unmarried. I thought it strange that the children would be so old and he be unmarried.

the george i have found is on RG10/2750 p48 (and pg47 which ancestry did not include when i used a credit to view the page!!)

Thankyou so much for sorting that out! that side of it does seem to fit together now!!

Thankyou!

Makayla.

You'd need to prove the theory by ordering the birth cert for one of the Buttery children born after the marriage to see if the mother's maiden name is given as Lomas ... Emily's father was called Reuben by the way. Would you like the 1861 details? Also, give me a shout if you need the full household for George in 1871.

Wow! Thanks for all of that! George and Emily had a son called Reuben so maybe they named him after her father!
Id love the 1861 details and the full household for 1871 would be great too!

Thankyou again!

William, son, 11, Coal Miner, b. do.

George, son, 6 (no birthplace given)

For the record - just next door:
