Hi

Don't have any connection to the Risks but do a copy of the Monumental Inscriptions pre 1855 for west stirlingshire - if you would like a note of them - there are 11 grave stones for Risk in Buchlyvie alone!

Just let me know if you haven't got this info.

Hi Ellen,
I have sent a personal message to you but am unsure if you received it or not. Because of this, I thought I'd post again here.

Am really interested in your Agnes Risk/father William Risk. I have always thought Agnes to be the daughter of John Risk and Marjery McLeod/McLew, but you quite possibly have a more accurate
source. This Agnes was born at Dunstoun, Buchlyvie and baptised at Balfron, 21 October, 1750.
If the above is correct, then I can give you lots of Risk info. If not, then I would be interested to update my files and find another Risk link.

Also have lots of Buchanan info to share.

Kind regards,
Coline.

Hi Coline

My husband's 4 x great grandmother was Agnes Risk, b. 07.01.1751 at Cadder. Father William Risk.  Don't have any further info as yet on Wiliam, or Agnes' mother.

Agnes married John Forsyth after banns called on 11.05.1780 at Killearn, Stirlingshire.

Her daughter Jane/Jean Forsyth (1797-1859) married into the Buchanan family, a wealthy family of confectionery manufacturers.

Hubby's great grandfather Andrew Buchanan (1870-1942) carried the Risk name as his middle name.

If you have any matchings details of Agnes or William Risk amongst your research I would be delighted to hear from you.

Kind Regards

Ellen.

Hi Coline

Sorry if you all thought I'd fallen off the face of the earth - I've been away on business, just back last night.

You are almost certainly right about Agnes Risk not being born in Cadder, as I have done no work as yet to verify this info.

I'll go and recheck what I've got and get back to you. Just wanted to let you know I had not disappeared.

Regards

Ellen.

Hello Ellen,

Beginning to wonder if you really are still there????

Please get in touch and let me know if there is a problem. Sorry if I seem to be too pushy but I really am keen to exchange info.

Hope all is well.

Regards,

Coline.

Hello Coline

Sorry, just been really busy.  I work away from home all week.

This is hubby's side of the family, and since I have a family wedding coming up (this Friday!) at home in Scotland, I've been focussing on my side to get as much uncovered as I can before I go home, as a surprise for my dad and the family.

To add to the delays, I've had problems with my FTM. Got my laptop reconfigured for work, and lost my package. got it back but had to reregister and now my unlock code won't work, so will have to get another one from FTM, so I can print out and save the info from it to send you by e mail.

I've done no further work yet on the Buchanans and Risks - but I think that you have more info than I in any case.

You still have access to my tree on GenesReunited.

Your 2 x g grandfather Alexander Buchanan  was the brother of Don, my hubby's, 3 x g grandfather Andrew Buchanan. (Their parents Alexander Buchanan and Grizel Gardner).

Andrew was also a grocer.  He married Jean Forsyth 21.12.1820 @ Govan, and died 27.01.1868 @ Killearn.

One of his many sons was John Buchanan b. 14.12.1823 @ Killearn. He married Jane Ronald Thomson, a doctors daughter, when he was 43 in 1868, a few months after his father died.

John Buchanan was a Confectionery Manufacturer, and owned John Buchanan & Brothers, along with his brothers.  I have a copy of his will. He died at Dumbuck House, Dumbarton in 1881.

Andrew Risk Buchanan (hubby's g grandfather) was John and Jane's eldest son, b. 28.01.1870 in Blythswood, Glasgow. He was also a Confectionery Manufacturer. (His brothers also worked in the business according to various census info I've found)  He married Annie Whyte Wilson, another grocer's daughter, in 1894 @ Dalziel Drive, Glasgow.

One of his daughters was Edith Agnes Buchanan b. 13.02.1896 in Blythswood, Glasgow, my husbands grandmother.

Once I get my FTM sorted out, I'll send you some more of the families' details.

Kind Regards

Ellen.

Hello Ellen,

Many thanks for your message and now I understand your problems!
You certainly are busy.

I won't keep nagging you now. When you get a chance and get your FTM organised I will look forward to sharing info with you.

Meanwhile I hope the wedding is a great celebration and you have good weather.

Best wishes,

Coline.

Hello All,

I am new to Rootschat but it seems like a wonderful source of information. I am a descendant of the Risks of Stirlingshire and am putting together a family tree for my granny who is Shirley Risk daughter of Ralph Risk (born 1892) who was married to Margaret Robertson. If anyone on this 'Risk' group would like to share information, I would love to connect. Thanks, Clare
